FREE CYCLE SCHEME

A new scheme was launched during 2001-2002 for the distribution of bicycles free of cost to the Adi Dravidar, Tribal and Adi Dravidar converted girls studying in 10 +1 and 10 + 2 standards

   TIMELY DISBURSEMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDENTS BELONGING TO BACKWARD CLASSES / MOST BACKWARD CLASSES AND DENOTIFIED COMMUNITIES.

District Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Office

                      The Backward Classes students who have secured a minimum of 40% of marks in the aggregate in the preceding year in annual examinations and whose parental income does not exceed Rs.50,000/- are eligible for Pre-matric and Post-matric Scholarships.

                     The MBC/DNC students passing education upto degree level (SSLC,Higher Secondary, Degree Course) are fully exempted from payment of Tuition fees, Special fees, examination fees and all other compulsory fees as approved by the Government department irrespective of parental income.

                     The Backward Classes students passing three year degree course and the BC/MBC/DNC students passing professional courses are fully exempting them from payment of Tuition fees, Special fees, Examination fees and other compulsory fees as approved by Government Department subject to following conditions.

  1. Annual income of parent/guardian should not exceed Rs.50,000/-

  2. Parents, brother, sister of the student in the family should not be graduates.

  3. The student should be first person to study degree/ Professionsl course.

The seasonal staff consisting of one Tahsildar and Two Assistants are specially sanctioned for the scholarship work. The scholarship sanction work will be completed as early as possible.

District Adi-Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Office

Scholarships are given to Adi-Dravidar /Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Caste Convert students studying in Government Schools and Government recognised Schools.

Government of India Post-matric Scholarship

Under this scheme all compulsory fees and maintenance charges are sanctioned. Adi-Dravidar/ST students studying in Standards 11 and above are eligible . Annual Income Rs.1,00,000/-. Day Scholar Rs.140/- to Rs.330/- per month. Hostellers Rs.235/- to Rs.740/- per month.

State Post-Matric Scholarship

All compulsory fees, Examination fees, maintenance charges to Day Scholars and Hostlers are sanctioned.Those who are not eligible for Government of India Post-matric scholarships and AD converts to Christianity students are sanctioned State Scholarships. Annual Income Rs.50,000/-

Free Education

Special Fees, Exam fees to students studying in +1, +2, B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., and other Degree Courses are sanctioned for those who are not eligible for Government of India and State Scholarships and pursuing studies in regular (Day) Colleges. No income limit.   From the Year 2001-2002 this scheme is extended to the girls students pursuing P.G.Courses.

Higher Education Special Scholarship (HESS)

AD / ST/ AD Christian Bounders of the hostels attached to the educational institutions and pursuing degree post graduate / professional courses are eligible.

Under this Scheme, the students are given Rs. 6,500/- per annum for degree courses and Rs. 7,000/- per annum for Post graduates and Professional Courses.   For Medical students also 75% of the amount is paid as subsidy and 25% as loan and for all others it is paid as subsidy.   The income limit of the parent / guardian should not exceed Rs. 50,000/- per annum.

CHIEF MINISTER'S MERIT AWARD

To encourage high schores in the +2 Public examinations, first thousand boys and thousand girls belonging to SC/ST/SC converted to  Christanity who continue their higher studies are given a sum of Rs. 1,500/- per annum as award for each students for a period of 5 Years.

The sanction of scholarships to AD / ST / AD Christians for the period from April, 2006  to Feb., 2007 are as follows:

                         Thirunagar College Boys Hostel (BC) is housed in the Government Building. All the other 6 BC/MBC Hostels are running in the private rented buildings.

                         The Government have taken policy decision to construct the Government building for the 770 hostels (including hostels in this District) housed in private buildings, in a phased programme. In G.O.Ms.No.17 (permanent) BC/ MBC/ MW Department, dated 07.05.2002 Government ordered construction of hostels in the unused Government vacant place in Government aided College and School building.

                          The Principal, Queen Marys College has given consent for the construction of hostel at the College premises. The construction of Government building may be proposed for the College Girls (BC) Hostel at Kodambakkam.

                          In respect of site for other 5 BC / MBC Hostels suitable sites are not available in most of the Government colleges.

                         There are 17 Hostels and 13 Schools run by Adi-Dravidar Welfare Department, Chennai District. All the Hostels and all the Schools are located in Government Buildings .

     PROVISION OF BASIC AMENITIES (DRINKING WATER, TOILET FACILITIES, ELECTRICITY) IN ALL THE BACKWARD AND MOST BACKWARD WELFARE HOSTELS INCLUDING THOSE WHICH ARE IN RENTED BUILDINGS.

District Backard Classes Welfare Office:

                         In all the Hostels Water, Electricity facilities are fully available for the hostel boarders staying in BC/ MBC Hostels in this District. Metro Water (3000 Litres) is purchased for the Hostel buildings and drinking water is provided through lorry in addition to the well water already available in the rented buildings.

                               In addition to that the Government have sanctioned a sum of Rs.32,13,466/- towards the Drinking Water, Toilet and Electricity facilities in the needy Adi Dravidar Welfare College Hostels in Chennai District. TAHDCO is carrying out the work.

                               Apart from this a sum of Rs.12,67,800/- have been paid to Metro Water Department towards supply of Metro Water, besides Rs.20,70,950/- has to be still settled to Metro Water Department towards supply of metro water to the Adi Dravidar Welfare Hostels.
